BAINUM FAMILY FOUNDATION Director, Food Security Initiative (FSI) & Program Related Investments (PRI)
Leadership role at private family foundation dedicated to building an equitable society for all children and families, particularly those from disinvested neighborhoods. Modeled trust-based philanthropy in engagement with partners, supported Board communication and knowledge building towards food security issues.
To advance FSI’s mission to develop an equitable, sustainable regional food system for all:
Engaged 15+ partners, developed and executed grants, contracts, consultant agreements and program-related investments leading to $7M+ invested in the regional food system, including two PRIs in a small-format grocery store and a for-profit food hub.
Led Bainum to become the first philanthropic funder to provide capital in Nourish D.C., a collaboration to date that has provided $400K in grants, $14.9M in loans and technical assistance to over 200 entrepreneurs to increase food access, cold storage infrastructure, and to drive the local food economy.
Conceptualized and designed research and knowledge capture engagements to facilitate sector-wide learning around access to philanthropic capital, racial equity in the food system and institutional procurement. Internally, led the development of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to track progress metrics.
Developed funding partnership with innovative CDFI providing 0% loans to Black producers to advance reparative capital access.
Engaged in Washington Regional Food Funders as member of steering committee to enhance collaboration amongst regional food and agriculture funders; engaged in multisector relationships across philanthropy, investor, non-and for-profit entities.
Researched and designed draft program-related investment approach to create financial pathways for for-and non-profit social enterprises; tracked and research emergent impact investing strategies and trends.
CULTIVATING NEW FRONTIERS IN AGRICULTURE (CNFA) Program Officer
Managed global programs on behalf of this international agricultural development organization that supports farmers and rural entrepreneurs.
Oversaw and backstopped $40M+ in USAID and Swiss funding, including the $22M USAID Georgia Restoring Efficiency to Agriculture Production Project, the $14.2M USAID Bangladesh Agro-Inputs Project, and the $3M Georgia Hazelnuts Improvement Project, a USAID Global Development Alliance.
Supported projects to ensure programmatic, contractual and financial compliance in collaboration with Operations and Compliance to ensure maximum impact. Travelled frequently to evaluate field program progress, managed contractors and prepared technical reports.

COLORADO FARMERS MARKET ASSOCIATION (CFMA) Interim Executive Director
Oversaw day-to-day operations of the organization, liaised between market managers and insurance company, managed expenses, and oversaw tax preparation; managed fundraising and grant development.
Planned and managed the annual CFMA Conference in partnership with the Board of Directors, an event attended by 60+ representatives from markets across the state.
HUNGER FREE COLORADO (HFC) Child Nutrition Program Lead
Program leadership position on behalf of this statewide nonprofit that connects people to food resources and drives policy, systems, and social change to end hunger. Created strategic partnerships with state, city and federal agencies and communities to increase access to child nutrition programs via advocacy for systems and policy change, including streamlined government processes.
Hired and led a team of seven external consultants and managed a $25K grant in partnership with the City of Denver Mayor’s office. Invited to speak at National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference in Washington, D.C..
DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH Assistant to the Program Manager (SNAP)
Performed research on food access points in Denver and co-developed a GIS Food Access map in partnership with Office of Economic Development.
Supported the Sustainable Food Policy Council, Fresh Food Access Fund Task Force, and SNAP Task Force with Denver Healthy People Program Manager.
GrowNYC GREENMARKET (GrowNYC) Market Manager
Designed and executed outreach, promotions, events, operations and education at Greenmarket locations.
Promoted SNAP initiatives at the market to increase access to nutritious food for low-income families.
CITY HARVEST (CH) Greenmarket Liaison
Served as a liaison between City Harvest, a food rescue non-profit and GrowNYC, a food access and education non-profit to strengthen relationship between food retail and food rescue in order to increase food access and reduce waste.
Coordinated 200+ volunteers and food rescue at the city’s largest Greenmarket (farmer’s market) location in Union Square.
Coordinated donations of 3,000 pounds+ per week for community members. This role sparked career interests in advocacy and food security.
BALLOTPEDIA Staff Writer
Through a temporary relocation to the Dominican Republic, wrote, edited, and published news articles and profiles on state executive offices, politicians, and elections on behalf of this nonprofit and nonpartisan online political encyclopedia that covers federal, state, and local politics, elections, and public policy in the United States.
U.S. PEACE CORPS Lesotho, Africa Primary School Resource Teacher
Wrote and received over $1,000 USD in grants to provide HIV testing and public health education to 200+ youth and adults. Authored, secured, and managed a United States Ambassador’s Grant ($500 USD) to initiate small business, generating income for an HIV support group.
Developed education workshops for primary schools and organized a Diversity Camp for 32 high school students.
